Our Economy is A Joke

Now in their 4th year, the Woodstock Comedy Festival was in need of some new punch lines.
A non-profit organization, they needed to make money in order to donate to their charities. But year after year, proceeds were dwindling. And that was no laughing matter. So, how did we create buzz and excitement around the Catskill’s funniest event?

Over the course of the three-day festival, we let people pay for stuff with their jokes.
A knock-knock got you a slice of pizza.
A lightbulb joke got you a t-shirt.

We took Woodstock’s economy and literally turned it into a joke.
We educated the public on how to pay for stuff with jokes.Through posters and social posts, we got people warmed up to tell jokes for free swag, food, and drink. Radio spots broke it down so that everyone knew that our economy ran on jokes.

Participation was amazing and the schticks? Hilarious.
And for a promotion that urged everyone to leave their wallets at home,it actually ended up being the festival’s most successful year yet.
